Guava Masala Crunch Yogurt Bowl With Freeze Dried Guava

Bowl of creamy yogurt topped with fresh fruit for breakfast

This yogurt bowl borrows the street-side guava with chaat masala and turns it into a quick breakfast or snack. Crunchy freeze dried guava goes on at the last moment, so every spoonful has creamy, tangy and crisp in it.

Time: 5 minutes. Serves: 2.

What do I need?

  • 1 cup thick curd or Greek yogurt, chilled
  • 1 small handful freeze dried guava (about 1/2 cup, broken into pieces)
  • 1 tbsp chopped roasted peanuts or almonds
  • 1/4 tsp chaat masala, plus a tiny pinch of black salt
  • A squeeze of lime
  • Optional: 1 tsp honey or jaggery syrup (leave it out for no added sugar)

How do I make it?

  1. Spoon the curd into two bowls and smooth the top.
  2. Stir the lime juice and a little chaat masala into the curd.
  3. Add the nuts.
  4. Scatter the freeze dried guava over the top just before serving.
  5. Finish with the rest of the chaat masala and eat straight away.

Why use freeze dried guava instead of fresh?

Freeze dried guava stays crisp on top of wet curd for a few minutes, while fresh guava goes soft and releases water. It is also easy to keep in the kitchen all year, long after guava season.

Can I make this with freeze dried jamun?

Yes. Freeze dried jamun gives a deeper, tart purple version, and you can skip the chaat masala and use a pinch of roasted cumin instead. Frudo's freeze dried jamun works the same way.

Can I use mango or strawberry?

Yes, any crunchy freeze dried fruit can go on top. Freeze dried mango makes a sweeter bowl, so use only lime and a pinch of salt. Browse more ideas on the Frudo recipes page.

What does guava give this bowl nutritionally?

Guava is a well known source of vitamin C: the EatSmart@school.hk food site lists 228 mg of vitamin C and 5.4 g of dietary fibre per 100 g of fresh guava. That figure is for the fresh fruit in general, not for a Frudo pack, so check the label of your pack.

How long does it keep?

Assemble the bowl just before eating, because the crunch softens within minutes in curd. Keep the unused freeze dried fruit sealed in its pack, away from moisture, and eat it before the best before date.

Can kids have it?

Yes, it works as a lunchbox-adjacent snack, but pack the guava separately in a small box so it stays crisp. For very young children, break the pieces small, and see our toddler guide.
